Secular or Spiritual?

I watch more than my share of news throughout the day (it's not just on my computer at work, but every time I walk down the hall at the hospital, guess what? We have lots of TV's at the hospital!). I have been bombarded with all sorts of thoughts on the upcoming Presidential Administration. My flesh has it's own extremely outspoken opinion about the new President Elect. HOWEVER, my spirit is bound to something much stronger in scripture that I cannot gloss over as if I never saw it. Tonight I was having a devotion time with my "John MacArthur Daily Bible" (if you have this bible, I'm specifially on pages 1170-1171). I was meditating on the passage from Hebrews 13:17 that says:

"Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.""

As I studied what it said there, I noticed that the obvious references could be to those as leaders in the church and that of my husband. However, as I re-read the passage, I began to think about those to whom we are subject to outside of the aforementioned. While studying further, the notes made by John MacArthur indicate that thought as well. He aludes to the fact that even though someone in a secular position of authority, such as the President Elect, "who do not acknowledge God are nevertheless ordained and used by Him (Romans 13:1-4)."

I know that it's incredibly difficult to be submissive to authority who holds extremely different views than we may hold, but God's Word is true. God will always be faithful. If we are faithful to believe His word, the chapter goes on to give a promise worth remembering if we will work to do His will:

"Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen." (Hebrews 13:20-21)

God Bless America

Today was not like any other. It didn't start as the usual "email over eggs and toast at my desk" kind of day. I was invited to a Veteran's Day breakfast at 7:30a.m. which was to be downtown, at the International Trade Club. I'll have to admit, at first I was less than excited. I fully expected it to be like any other business breakfast. Blah, blah, blah, invocation, breakfast, boring speech, benediction, DONE.

Boy, was I ever WRONG! What a blessing this morning turned out to be. I got to meet and share breakfast (that was actually pretty good) with some very nice men who just happened to have fought for my freedom. Not only did they fight for me, but they lost their buddies and brothers along the way, just to ensure that I could get up and breathe the air of freedom each day. I was also very privileged to hear a very patriotic and inspiring speech delivered by CMSGT Paul D. Moreau, the Command Chief Master Sergeant, Second Air Force, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. These men basically "blessed my socks off" this morning. I actually left there ashamed that I had been "grumbly" earlier in the morning about going. The Lord knew that I needed a swift reminder of just how important these men were to ensuring freedom for me and for my loved ones. He also reminded me of the loved ones from my family and Rob's family who fought for me as well in World War II, Vietnam, the Gulf War and the war in Iraq.

I know that I thanked these men earlier today, but I'll have to say it again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the selfless sacrifice of putting your lives on the line to give me freedom. May God continue to bless this great country of the United States of America.

He's Still On the Throne

I have to credit this to some information that was sent by my cousin Leslie in an email.  She got the statements that will follow from the Founders Ministry website.  As my husband said, this is very thought provoking and very true.  I hope that you will be encouraged and uplifted by the following statements:

May God Have Mercy

I am unbelievably saddened that the United States of America is now on the path to becoming a Socialist regime.  We are now under the rule of a very radical man who has few loyalties to the United States and many loyalties to other radical Muslim and Communist countries.  I am thankful, however, that my God is in control. Even this radical man is no match for the Power and Might of God.  Regardless of the Socialist movements that this man intends to make in this still great nation, he must remember one thing.  He must remember that one day soon, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  May God have mercy on this country.

A Hymn of Thanksgiving

With the election approaching and being in the midst of very uncertain times, we can still be thankful. Thankful to God for salvation through Jesus Christ, thankful for freedom of worship of the one true Living God, thankful for the infallible and unchanged Word of God--our Bible, thankful for our families, thankful for precious friends.....just thankful. Friday's Food For Thought

In light of the vigorous campaign efforts for the Presidential race, I find this video very intriguing. Although I am not Catholic, I believe that the video presentation done by CatholicVote was very well done and worth watching by any registered voter about to make the decision of a lifetime. It's emphasis is not on a certain candidate, but rather on the true issues of the candidacy itself and all that it entails.
